What It's Like to Have My First Tech Job
When I finished my bootcamp for web development, I immediately started searching for a junior web developer or front-end role. I was really determined and hopeful about landing a job right after the bootcamp, but unfortunately, I was rejected or ignored for almost 40 times. I started to feel discouraged because it was hard to get a foot in the tech industry without experience or credentials. I don’t have any tech background, and my education isn’t related to tech.
But in the back of my mind, I remained determined. I knew I needed to move out of my comfort zone and look for something new—even if it wasn’t exactly what I wanted. I had been working as an Order Analyst for a telco company for almost four years, and I felt I had outgrown the role. I needed to learn something new.
Feeling low, I continued browsing for job opportunities on different platforms and found an opening for a data analyst role at Benifex. At first, I didn’t like the idea because it wasn’t the tech role I had envisioned, but given how difficult it was to find a tech job at that time, I decided to apply. By God's grace, I was reprofiled for a tech consulting position.
I was determined to ace every stage of the application process because I knew this could be my doorway into the tech world.
I’m incredibly grateful that I was given the chance to prove my skills and my willingness to learn. For someone without a tech background, I knew I needed to put in extra effort to learn and unlearn certain things. That’s why I committed myself to excellence in every task I was given and made sure not to take anything for granted.
Lastly, I just want to share a message of hope that things will eventually work out for the best if you surrender your plans and trust His will. If I was able to make it this far, I believe you can too. Keep moving forward with faith, and know that what’s meant for you will always find its way.
